A free 24/7/365 national phone line run by the Social Inclusion Support Center as a government-subsidized program. The phone guidance explicitly lists options such as 'my family doesn't understand me' and 'I've fallen out with my parents'. Raku no Kai Leela (Tokyo family NPO)

Tokyo's anchor hikikomori family-association NPO, with monthly meetings (in a new format since fiscal 2026) and study sessions, plus programs commissioned by Kita, Shinjuku and Meguro wards and Machida City. Online streaming is paid and for family members only. Every month it also publishes a PDF of local family-group meeting dates across Tokyo (two months at a time), a compass for finding the nearest group.

NPO Osaka Niji-no-Kai (KHJ Osaka Family Association)

Osaka's KHJ family circle, a hub for Kansai's family groups: one of its members also co-chairs the national federation. Both the office and the monthly meetings are in Takaishi (meetings at Hagoromo Kominkan as of February 2025). The blog has not been updated since February 2025, so phone (Tue/Thu 13:00-16:00) to confirm the next one. The two KHJ doors in Osaka are this and Tsubasa-no-Kai in Hirakata.

The lab of Prof. Kato Takahiro, who founded the world's first hikikomori specialty clinic (2013, Kyushu University Hospital), now running on two bases after his April 2025 move to Hokkaido University. Its website offers the online 5-step family education program, self-check tools (HQ-25M, HiDE), and online seminars, Japan's most systematized medical-grade starting point, built on the premise that the family becomes the first supporter.

Following Prof. Kato's 2025 appointment, Hokkaido University Hospital is building a comprehensive hikikomori care system: family-support VR sessions already run on site, and a metaverse consultation system entered joint development in 2026. From October 2026 it takes bookings for a Hikikomori Family Support Clinic, where family members can consult at the stage before the person themselves is seen (self-pay, by appointment only, the person does not need to attend). When medical urgency is high or the person becomes willing to be seen, the clinic refers on to the hospital's insurance-covered hikikomori specialty clinic.
