Following Prof. Kato's 2025 appointment, Hokkaido University Hospital is building a comprehensive hikikomori care system: family-support VR sessions already run on site, and a metaverse consultation system entered joint development in 2026. From October 2026 it takes bookings for a Hikikomori Family Support Clinic, where family members can consult at the stage before the person themselves is seen (self-pay, by appointment only, the person does not need to attend). When medical urgency is high or the person becomes willing to be seen, the clinic refers on to the hospital's insurance-covered hikikomori specialty clinic. The next center of hikikomori clinical care in Japan.

Hikikomori family support outpatient clinic: appointment only (bookings taken from October 2026). Booking by phone only, weekdays 9:00-16:00 (011-706-4330, Medical Affairs Section, first-visit booking desk). Meeting slots are generally Tue 14:30-16:00 (1-2 slots a month); no referral letter needed
